We have used Pastel Evolution accounting software since 2005 and Prefsol have been providing us support since 2006. The telephonic support given by Sage Pastel Helpdesk themselves is very good, but there are times when they are unable to fix a problem, and refer you to your local Pastel support consultant. Their in-depth product and system knowledge have enabled PrefSol to solve every problem we have ever brought to them. Their customer service is excellent. We recommend them highly.In our time together, these are some of our experiences:

In mid-2006 Sally Roux assisted us to setup our company data using a new chart of accounts structure. With one simple suggestion of Sally’s on the use of “Segments” in the General Ledger, she cut the keystrokes required to capture a GL account code from 11, down to 4. By doing so, she has saved us millions of keystrokes over the past 13 years! That was our introduction to the difference that PrefSol can make.

We lost our file server due to a power spike in 2018. Pravesh Reddy of PrefSol came to re-install Pastel on the new hard drive, and to restore our data from our weekly backup. He immediately proposed, and set-up, a system which has backed up our Pastel data three times a day since then.

Earlier this year, our file server was inadvertently switched off, then on again, by a new IT technician. After that, no-one could login to Pastel. The Pastel Helpdesk eventually suggested that we reload SQL Server. An immediate phone-call to PrefSol established that Pravesh was fully booked for that, and the next day (Thursday), but he still found the time to help us using TeamViewer, emails and the telephone. Reloading SQL Server didn’t solve the problem, but Pravesh did, by restoring EvolutionCommon from back-up, and at last we were able to login.

That wasn’t the end of our problems. Not only had Evolution Common been corrupted by the power failure, but our data had as well. Pravesh suggested that running a relink would take a long time, and might not solve the problem. We restored our data from Pravesh’s backup of first thing Wednesday morning. We only had to re-capture two transactions, to be back on track.

Nic Swart’s invaluable assistance with setting up customised reports in the Business Intelligence module also merits commendation

I have been dealing with Roelien van der Linden for many years now and I plan to continue with this relationship for the years to come. Gossamer Packaging Machinery is a specialist engineering company based in Somerset West, Western Cape, producing high quality end-of–the–line packaging machinery. Customer service, product quality and reliable service are the company’s highest priorities.

Various accounting packages were assessed in the late 1990’s but it was decided that Pastel Partner would suit our company best because of its manufacturing package. Not only was it the most cost effective solution but it enabled us to compile bills of materials for each individual machine with its change parts. However, the major challenge was to place the orders accurately and swiftly, directly after a machine was ordered. This is where our partnership with Preferred Solutions came to fruition. She is someone that takes the time to recount a positive experience, and it speaks volumes. I have always been completely satisfied with her performance. She does an excellent job and will always go the extra mile. She is well informed about the latest developments with regards to payroll and SARS. In 1992, I started using Pastel, version 1.0.1 which was in DOS version (windows did not exist at that time).  Pastel being the 1^st and only accounting program I have ever used.

As in everything we do, it took a while to learn the program.  I was working in Oudtshoorn at the time & Preferred Solutions was only a call away, I managed to convince the company to go all the way with Preferred Solutions on the Accounting side and the Payroll program.  I have always felt easy in the staff’s company, where they have taken the time to explain, analysis , assist where ever they could.  Amazingly calm telephone manner, especially when “we” the client are busy having panic attacks on the other side of the line.  Preferred Solutions will never let you or your company run out of Invoice paper or payslips, as their staff always do courtesy calls and some how, just know when you are about to run out of stationery, which they even deliver to your offices.  I will never forget when my laptop crashed, I called Charlotte Jordan at Preferred Solutions, I was in a state as I had clients who needed their paperwork for SARS.  She was so calm and patient in assisting me, told me to bring my laptop to their offices, which I did.  I got my laptop back the same day and nothing was lost, how the service department managed to retrieve the work, only they know. 

I so appreciate the emails of continual updates that are happening and the invites we receive when they are promoting something new.

For the past + 10 years, Roelien van der Linden has been the Erin vale Country Estate Home Owners' Associations' Pastel/ Payroll Consultant. During this time, we have been continually impressed with her work ethic as well as the professional way in which she has approached every task. Roelien has always been available when we experience issues, whether with Pastel or SARS and willing to go the extra mile to assist, with an amazing grasp of the problems presented. Our biggest fear was losing her when she relocated to England, but to our great delight she is still able to assist via e-mail and do our very necessary statutory requirements via Team Viewer. Roelien is an invaluable asset to the Prefsol Team, and we truly hope that she will continue to work for them for years to come.

Roelien van der Linden has been involved as a Sage Pastel consultant with Helderberg Hospice for plus minus the past 10-12 years.  It has been one of my most pleasant working experiences to work with Roelien for so many years.
