Chapter 12 - Go For Gold
“Hi, everybody. Welcome, welcome, and most importantly, congratulations. Congratulations everyone who’s nominated tonight. Thank you for letting me be a part of this. I’m excited. I’ve never been to this awards ceremony before. This is my first time here — and the way you people go through hosts, this is probably my last time here. So I’m going to enjoy this while I’m here. This broadcast is being watched live by millions of Americans and around the world in more than 225 countries that now hate us.” Now, Jimmy Kimmel is a riot, even though talk show hosts are a dime a dozen on the TV these days. This is a transcript of the intro to his opening monologue at the Oscars in 2017 and it most definitely got even funnier the longer it went on. (Do yourselves a favour and look it up. :D) But we should probably get to our story, an awards ceremony of our own.
In 2005, Preferred Solutions was invited to a Pastel event in Johannesburg. Now, these events were legion around that time, so it wasn’t weird for us to get an invite. But this one was different. The glamorous event commenced, food was eaten, drinks were had and the chit-chat went thick and fast. After a while, the bigwigs stood up and headed for the stage. Turns out, this business wasn’t just a meet-and-greet, it was a full blown awards ceremony. And right at the forefront…Preferred Solutions, Top Pastel Reseller in the Western Cape and Top Value-Added Reseller for Pastel Payroll and Partner in the Western Cape! A mouthful to be sure, but it started a chain of events that would be a proud feather in Preferred Solutions’ cap for many years to come. Each and every year Preferred Solutions would return and walk away with even more rewards, their growing collection singing the praises of their top quality service nationwide.
Now, I get that this sounds like us blowing our own horn. And it kind of is, but hear me out. We all strive to improve ourselves in some way, shape or form. Whether we aim for big or small changes, we try to get better every single day. And it feels really good when someone recognizes the fact that you’ve been trying and that you’ve become really good at what you do. So, to some, a small glass statuette might not look like much. But we believe that it is a symbol of our achievements and the drive we have to be the best. And, by association, it means that we do our best to share those expertise with our clients, lending our skills to the collective effort to make them better too. A rising tide lifts all the boats, or so they say.
